The Pink Pedal...a tribute to John Anczarski - a hero in the battle against breast cancer

Four young men from Pennsylvania decided to fight back against breast cancer in their own unique way, by biking across the country. They formed a team called the Pink Pedal Group -Riding Hard Against Breast Cancer.

The Pink Pedal was comprised of John Anczarski, Travis Brown, Ty Beretskie and Nick Gober. The four young men, none of whom were professional cyclists, decided to pursue this great cause while on college break. The excitement, inspiration and hope generated by their cause has touched so many people, especially those who have been affected by breast cancer.

It is with much sadness that I must report that one of the cyclists--John Anczarski, Jr. was fatally injured as a result of being struck by a car in Laguna, NM. He passed away June 22nd at a trauma center in New Mexico with his parents and the Pink Pedal team by his side. Our community and all those supporting these young men and their noble cause are heartbroken beyond belief. Johnny was only 19 years old.

Here was a young man doing his part to change the world for the better. John was a student at the University of Colorado, studying chemical engineering. He was also an Eagle scout. Like his team mates, he wanted to make a difference and fight back against breast cancer. Although his crusade has taken a tragic, heartbreaking turn of events, his death was not in vain. John was an organ donor. Possibly, through his dying, he has given new life to others.

It is unknown if the Pink Pedal will be able to finish their journey. At this time, the young men have traveled back to Pennsylvania for the funeral services of their team mate and friend.

We share this story with everyone, so that John's life will be remembered by the many people he had helped. The world could use another million people like him.

He gave his life to help others. John Anczarski will forever be a hero.

Below is a video tribute to John.
