Jump from a plane??? Why not??? This is the place....

The day at Sky Dive Long Island/Calverton was a huge success... If you intend to do this crazy act - this was the place to be.  Very organized and they met all our needs.  We had 21 jumpers scheduled and the day went without a glitch.  They advised to be prepared to stay half the day - arriving at 11am we were ready to depart  at 2:15...Kudos to all! Whatever fear we had going in and was replaced by a blast of a day in the end!

And the booty....$15000 raised for Strength for Life and our programs, that is awesome!

Seeking sponsors for our first annual "Evelyn Knapp" Memorial Run in November, please consider suggesting who we can contact.  Knowing the right person makes all the difference in the world and we need every advantage we can muster up. You can make a difference with this undertaking!

We have been blessed this year with help from "Academia" - now let's be blessed by "Industry".

It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.

Fantastic new organizations......

I am always amazed to learn about new organizations surrounding us.  Again, who knew?  and if you did - why didn't you share? I will not be blamed for holding something back!!!! as you can see....

Debbie and I met Joanne & Laney of "Moms Who Kick" after their Newsday debut - they raised an enormous amount of $$$ for American Cancer Society and breast cancer research with a calendar and fashion show.

Moms Who Kick donated 150 calendars at Casino Night for the attendees and offered
a special dedication in honor of Evelyn Knapp in the 2011 calendar. You can dedicate a date for a loved one or friend in the 2011 calendar by sending an email to J0@MomsWhoKick.com.
Their website is being reconstructed but the link is ( http://www.momswhokick.org/)

Laney shared information of ActiveEntrepreneur:
http://www.activentrepreneur.com/Leaders.asp,
take a moment and view their website...from there I learned about:

Splashes of Hope (http://www.splashesofhope.org/) a non profit organization who paint murals for children's hospitals throughout the US and they are based right here in Huntington! You must check out their website  to see the incredible work they do.

See a pattern here?....networking, fabulous information, incredible organizations! and so many more.....

Success!!! - Casino Night....

Sorry if you missed out - it was an awesome event, Evelyn's family members were present and viewed the video together for the first time...a few teary eyes among us.  The girls were very lucky at the tables and with the raffles - and we all enjoyed the night!  Of course Debbie and I are happy that it has finally come and gone - phew! So many last minute goings on!

Onto Skydiving - Saturday May 29 at Long Island Sky Dive - there will be close to 20 friends and family members jumping- (tandem)- out of a plane to raise $$$ for Strength for Life.  You really must check out the list - that is growing by the day, of  our brave, adventure seekers.  Lord, what a blend of individuals all sharing one idea to help raise money so that we may continue our mission to help cancer patients and survivors feel their absolute best.  Just peruse the stories - they are so inspiring and diverse.

Here are the links I would like you to visit:

And if you have not watched the incredible video that the Hofstra film students produced - please take at look - you will have a better understanding of  why we do what we do.

Thank you!

Ragnar Relay Update

The twelve brave, albeit insane, athletes finished the 184 mile run from Woodstock to NYC (Dobbs Ferry). Please don't think they were alone in this insanity - there were over 200 teams doing the same crazy event.

No bears, Deb - that was her one excuse not join them.... actually I heard no wild life at all.

A few wrong turns, some extra miles logged - tendinitis for one; but all in all - they returned unscathed. When asked it they would do it again? Many said "yes", there was one strong "NO", and a "in a different location" - which was quite promising for responses after such a long event.

Of course if you are on Facebook - the team photo is under group - Strength for Life.

Next....Skydiving! If Debbie makes it even on the ground!

Wow - Hofstra & C W Post - Thank you!

As you may have read in an earlier post - the Hofstra students produced an outstanding video, capturing the essence of Strength for Life.

Please visit: http:www.youtube.com/watch?v=f89BA8-Z1wk.

In addition, Professor Freeley from C. W. Post's Social Entrepreneurship class had the BOCES/Nassau class film an interview with us - and now we have the potential of our exercise video being produced in September as well as an outstanding/professional interview that took place.

We asked for an angel - and got a few!

The C. W. Post graduate students of Prof. Freeley's class have been working on a variety of projects to benefit Strength for Life.

Thank you, thank you , thank you!

Mom and Pop shops vs.........

LIVESTRONG.......

Did I get your attention, bravo!

We learned that Livestrong is partnering with YMCA and offering cancer programs including free exercise classes. Debbie's first reaction (since she was the first to learn) -" Do we close the doors now?"

So with much contemplation and appreciation of our true mission to get the word out there, we realize the opportunity still exists for Strength for Life. The Y's do not cover every area, but they certainly have the backing and the power to reach the masses - so we need your help! We need each and every one of you to talk about the program to your friends and doctors. Our real need is to infiltrate the oncology offices, and have them understand exercise as an complementary therapy. We simply want you to feel your best while you go through whichever therapy is appropriate for you, your cancer and your present situation. So in the end, it is a good thing to have big guns on your side, we can accomplish much more together.

We continue our mission, our classes and our wellness weekends with you in mind. Having said that, keep us in the forefront when you are talking with your medical professionals - let's get the word out there!!!!

Remember, Stony Brook Cancer Center has approved our classes on Tuesdays at 6:30 and Body in Balance Physical Therapy, Hauppauge has agreed to classes on Thursdays at 6:30. Call 631-675-6513; or complete the contact page on our website to register. Medical clearance is necessary.

Navel Expo - May 2, 2010

WOW, what can I say and when will you listen...please don't tell me you missed this expo!

If you ran the Long Island Marathon or rode in the 5 Borough Bike Ride - I suppose you have some sort of excuse however neither of those events lasted 12 hours as did the Navel Expo....so where were you? Do you possibly have all the answers? If so, let's write that book together - entitled "all you know that I don't."

Seriously, it was an extraordinary event - so full of positive, life-altering information. We have been somewhat spoiled by participating in the Big Long Island Million Pound Challenge and meeting many of these medical professionals on a weekly basis, however there is always so much more.

Are you green yet? not with envy.... with your lifestyle...it is a process, but with each step we take towards achieving a greener lifestyle we are helping ourselves, our families, our friends, neighbors and our planet.

And is your water as pure as it can be? how are you drinking it? still using plastic bottles? - stainless steel and glass are better choices. A water filtration system for your house - is not something that is for the rich and famous - actually it is affordable.

As always, it is about prioritizing and making choices. So many products to consider, and so many easily accessible - have you read about virgin coconut oil - a better choice than most vegetable oils, raw honey, dried fruits and nuts; cookware; and those were just the two booths next to us. A product and company called "Reliv International" - you must do your reading about the products as they relate to cancer, sports and general nutrition and above all how they are invested in feeding those who do not have the choices we have.

Lectures galore, free testing galore...you can not miss the November Navel Expo - write it down now, be on the lookout. Health Media Group http://www.navelexpo.com/, save it to your favorites but do NOT miss this event.
