Cancer Survivor Group...Mather Hospital

Stacey Jolley facilitates a wonderful support group at Mather Hospital and allowed Debbie and I to join last night and demonstrate some basic exercises with the stability ball and bands. Strength for Life has been actively reaching out to this support group and it finally happened - then lo and behold I learned that Stacey is good friends with my cousins.

You can tell in a very short time how welcoming this group was...it is always great for us to experience this and be able to share with others who might be searching.

For information you can call Stacey at 631-689-1635

Great interview with Dr. Alicia Stanton.....

Beyond the Boobie Trap has a great interview with the author of  "Hormone Harmony" - make time for this! It addresses the imbalances of hormones,  the whys and hows and what we can do to create better balance.

Have questions about ......

sugar? cortisol? belly fat? cholesterol? adrenal gland? glycemic diets? stress?

.......so, so much information! Set aside the 41 minutes and educate yourself! I do believe you will find the interview easy to listen to and full of relevant information.

Sorry for the lapse.....

Thank you Arlene Salman WVOX/WVIP for our radio interview last Friday.  Of course Debbie and I were concerned about a 'one hour' show - but lo and behold an experienced host with a personal history of cancer made the time fly. The opportunity for us to get our message out there is major, and Luis of the Personal Training Institute/New Rochelle made this all possible....thank you Luis. Arlene has a background in the non-profit world (the Arthritis Foundation and the National Cancer Organization)  and she now hosts this radio show to give a voice to local non-profits. Her expertise and kindness made this a valuable experience for Strength for Life in many ways.

Although we do not presently service Westchester, we are seriously considering having the early 2011 wellness weekend in that area. The chance to reach out with the help of natives of Westchester who have connections - make this a 'no brainer'. For Strength for Life to host a wellness weekend away from home and away from our local yoga, reiki and tai chi instructors and our familiar guest speakers presents obstacles, but having friends in high places minimizes the obstacles. We will keep you updated on the plan.

The plan for the October Wellness Weekend (Breast Cancer month) is unfolding....the summer wellness weekend was postponed due to so many activities and vacations.

Be on the lookout for the next newsletter, it should be emailed within the month.

Luis of the New Rochelle Personal Training Institute introduced us to a client, Arlene Salman, who hosts a radio show promoting non-profits and the medical community. Arlene offered Strength for Life a spot next Friday, July 9 at 1pm on WVOX-WVIP (heard on 1460AM and through WVOX.com).

This may not seem outstanding because you know the connection that we share with Personal Training Institute however, we have never met Luis and he has taken our information, raised money for us and is promoting us from the goodness of his heart. We are very grateful!

The Pink Pedal...a tribute to John Anczarski - a hero in the battle against breast cancer

Four young men from Pennsylvania decided to fight back against breast cancer in their own unique way, by biking across the country. They formed a team called the Pink Pedal Group -Riding Hard Against Breast Cancer.

The Pink Pedal was comprised of John Anczarski, Travis Brown, Ty Beretskie and Nick Gober. The four young men, none of whom were professional cyclists, decided to pursue this great cause while on college break. The excitement, inspiration and hope generated by their cause has touched so many people, especially those who have been affected by breast cancer.

It is with much sadness that I must report that one of the cyclists--John Anczarski, Jr. was fatally injured as a result of being struck by a car in Laguna, NM. He passed away June 22nd at a trauma center in New Mexico with his parents and the Pink Pedal team by his side. Our community and all those supporting these young men and their noble cause are heartbroken beyond belief. Johnny was only 19 years old.

Here was a young man doing his part to change the world for the better. John was a student at the University of Colorado, studying chemical engineering. He was also an Eagle scout. Like his team mates, he wanted to make a difference and fight back against breast cancer. Although his crusade has taken a tragic, heartbreaking turn of events, his death was not in vain. John was an organ donor. Possibly, through his dying, he has given new life to others.

It is unknown if the Pink Pedal will be able to finish their journey. At this time, the young men have traveled back to Pennsylvania for the funeral services of their team mate and friend.

We share this story with everyone, so that John's life will be remembered by the many people he had helped. The world could use another million people like him.

He gave his life to help others. John Anczarski will forever be a hero.

Below is a video tribute to John.
